LLAMADA A PROYECTOS EME3_2012
Una vez más, se abre el plazo para la presentación de proyectos que serán seleccionados y expuestos dentro de la 7ª edición del festival eme3, que se celebrará en Barcelona los días 28 de junio al 1 de julio en el COAC (Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Cataluña), manteniéndose abierta la exposición hasta el 15 de julio.

Temática : presentación del Bottom-up
El tema de la 7ª edición del Festival Internacional de Arquitectura EME3 parte de un análisis exploratorio de la aplicación del concepto “BOTTOM-UP” en la arquitectura y su relación con la sociedad. Cuando hablamos de acercamiento bottom-up, contraponiéndolo al top-down, es, como el nombre bien indica, comenzar por el diseño detallado de las partes individuales, para luego enlazarlas conformando componentes más grandes, que a su vez se enlazan hasta formar un sistema completo. Las estrategias basadas en flujos de información bottom-up se antojan potencialmente necesarias en tanto que se basan en el conocimiento extensivo de todas las variables que pueden afectar los elementos del sistema.
En un contexto cambiante como el actual, en el que se cuestionan y se ponen en entredicho las bases de nuestro sistema, toda una serie de acciones, que hasta la fecha tenían una implementación y repercusión bastante minoritaria en las sociedades desarrolladas, florecen ahora con fuerza, apostando por la creatividad y la innovación ante el momento de crisis e incertidumbre.
Eme3 quiera dar apoyo a estas iniciativas generadas con y a través de la sociedad civil, por lo que decide apostar por la promoción de propuestas bottom-up en las dos modalidades de la llamada a proyectos.
Objetivo de la llamada a proyectos :
Siguiendo la filosofía de eme3 de dar cada año visibilidad a creativos emergentes y propuestas innovadoras, proponemos una llamada a proyectos ya realizados, en curso o para realizar que vayan en línea con la temática del 2012, BOTTOM-UP, y que pueden presentarse en dos modalidades y en diferentes formatos:
SHARE-IT: se trata de enseñar tanto proyectos realizados como por realizar, en formato de plafón, prototipo en escala reducida, vídeos, web y aplicaciones interactivas u cualquier otro formato volumétrico que pueda caber en 3x3x3m y venga producido e instalado por el participante. La originalidad de las propuestas y su presentación serán un valor añadido a la hora de primar la selección, por lo que se hace una llamada a la creatividad y capacidad de inventiva de los participantes.
Eme3 se encargará de producir el material en formato de plafón según las medidas que serán comunicadas por la organización, mientras que cualquier otro material vendrá producido por el equipo participante.
Aquellas propuestas presentadas en formato volumétrico irán expuestas en el espacio exterior, a la intemperie, cosa que deberá ser tenida en cuenta por los equipos participantes a la hora de diseñarlo.
BUILD-IT: se abre una llamada a ideas en la que los participantes pueden presentar propuestas de utilización de solares en desuso o degradados del Distrito de Ciutat Vella en Barcelona. El objeto de la llamada a ideas es propiciar la creación de lugares que den carácter y singularidad al barrio y facilitar la apropiación del espacio público por parte de los vecinos en un proceso participativo bottom-up, para que los solares recuperen su utilidad y puedan mantener un dinamismo y evolución en el tiempo. Se han detectado varios solares / rincones en el Distrito de Ciutat Vella en los que poder trabajar (ver algunos ejemplos de solares en los anexos (pdf)). Los proyectos pueden ser tanto de intervención directa en cualquiera de los espacios detectados como venir cursados a través de la realización de propuestas metodológicas: workshops o construcción de procesos participativos.
Los proyectos podrán tener una duración a corto o mediano plazo, teniendo como objetivo principal aportar soluciones a la degradación de espacios abandonados o infrautilizados en el Distrito de Ciutat Vella de Barcelona. El Jurado escogerá un máximo de tres ideas presentadas para ser construidas o implementadas durante el Festival. Los solares que se listan en el annexo son una selección de los espacios en desuso que se encuentran en el Distrito de Ciutat Vella, por lo que las propuestas ganadoras pueden acabar implementándose en otros espacios diferentes para el que fueron diseñadas.
Eme3 apoyará la realización de cada una de las propuestas con una cantidad máxima de 2.000 euros por proyecto, entendiendo que cualquier gasto que supere este presupuesto irá a cargo del equipo participante.
Candidatos : quién puede participar
eme3 invita a participar en la llamada a proyectos a arquitectos, diseñadores, colectivos pluridisciplinares, artistas y otros profesionales o ciudadanos de cualquier pais que tengan una actitud proactiva ante las problemáticas inherentes a la ciudad contemporánea y a la arquitectura, entendiendo que las necesidades de las urbes actuales van más allá de una aproximación puramente edificable.
Qué tipo de proyectos pueden participar :
Se buscan proyectos que sean producto de una reflexión crítica frente a la realidad, con la mirada puesta en el contexto político, económico y social. Dichos proyectos pueden abordar problemáticas que giren en torno a la sociedad, la ecología, la política, la transmisión de conocimientos o la propia disciplina arquitectónica y urbanística. No hay un formato específico que delimite el tipo de propuestas, aceptándose publicaciones, estrategias y sistemas de trabajo, prototipos de materiales constructivos, artefactos, cartografías, proyectos arquitectónicos y urbanísticos, etc.
Proceso de inscripción:
La inscripción es gratuita.
Las propuestas cuya presentación esté incompleta no podrán ser evaluadas en el proceso de selección.
Los proyectos se recibirán exclusivamente por e-mail, y deberán ser enviados a la dirección de mercado@eme3.org. Toda presentación del proyecto deberá ir acompañada por la ficha de inscripción (descargable en la web). Los archivos no podrán exceder el peso de 15Mb., y aquellos que superen los 6Mb deberán enviarse por una web de envío de archivos de gran tamaño (wetransfer.com, yousendit.com, dropbox.com, etc). El asunto del mensaje llevará el título de “llamada a proyectos Eme3_2012”.

Presentación de proyectos:
El idioma de presentación de los proyectos deberá ser el inglés o el español .
Todos los proyectos, ya sean de la categoría SHARE-IT o BUILD-IT deberán ir acompañados de una presentación de la persona o equipo de un máximo de 200 palabras en un formato Word, junto con la ficha de insripción (doc) rellenada.
SHARE-IT: los proyectos serán presentados en base a un máximo de 3 dinA3, con imágenes y/textos con un tamaño mínimo de tipografía 8. Deberán incluir una descripción del concepto y de la intención del proyecto con un máximo de 500 palabras. Imágenes, renders, fotografías o planos que ayuden a la explicación del proyecto en un máximo de 8 imágenes. Los nombres del equipo y del proyecto deberán aparecen en todas las hojas.
BUILD-IT: los proyectos serán presentados en base a un máximo de 3 dinA3, con imágenes y/textos con un tamaño mínimo de tipografía 8. Deberán incluir una descripción del concepto y de la intención del proyecto con un máximo de 500 palabras. Imágenes, renders, fotografías o planos (a escala) que ayuden a la explicación del proyecto en un máximo de 8 imágenes. En un documento anexo deberá aparecer la explicación sobre el montaje de la propuesta, el tiempo estimado de montaje y el presupuesto detallado. Los nombres del equipo y del proyecto deberán aparecen en todas las hojas.
Plazo de presentación :
El último día para enviar las propuestas es el 15 de abril del 2012.
Proceso de selección :
Los equipos/personas preseleccionados serán contactados por la organización de eme3 para aclarar cualquier duda antes de la confirmación de su selección.
Los proyectos se seleccionarán en función de varios criterios:
•calidad y creatividad de la propuesta
•coherencia discursiva con la temática 2012
•capacidad de transformación de la realidad
•viabilidad económica y logística de la propuesta.

Miembros del Comité Científico de eme3, de la Junta Directiva de la Fundación Jesús Serra y del COAC.

Lunes 19 de marzo: apertura de la llamada a proyectos
Jueves 12 de abril: cierre del período de preguntas y respuestas
Domingo 15 de abril: cierre de la llamada a proyectos
Lunes 23 de abril: confirmación de los seleccionados - EN CURSO !
Miércoles 23 de mayo: cierre de la recepción del material para el catálogo, página web, y plafones según características especificadas el 23 de abril por parte de la organización.
Jueves 28 de junio: inauguración del festival

Premios:
SHARE-IT: Durante el festival eme3, la Fundación Jesús Serra entregará tres premios a los proyectos seleccionados por el jurado. Todos los participantes seleccionados en la modalidad SHARE-IT, independientemente de su formato de participación, podrán ser elegibles al premio.
Primer premio: 3.000 euros
Segundo premio: 2.000 euros
Tercer premio: 1.000 euros
BUILD-IT: el premio consiste en la financiación de un máximo de 2.000 euros (con IVA) para llevar a cabo la propuesta seleccionada. Se escogerán tres propuestas de todas las presentadas. Las propuestas seleccionadas podrán exceder el presupuesto de 2.000 euros, quedando esos gastos a cargo de los participantes, ya sea a través de patrocinios, cesión de materiales o a través de fondos propios.
Si los participantes en el Build-it tienen que hacer un recorrido mayor a 100 km2 de desplazamiento para llegar a Barcelona, se cubrirá el alojamiento de un máximo de 7 noches por persona del equipo ganador, así como las dietas para esos días.
*El Jurado se reserva la posibilidad de dejar los premios vacantes si ninguna de las propuestas cumple satisfactoriamente los objetivos (válido para las dos modalidades).
Derechos de propiedad:
Los proyectos seleccionados serán objeto de publicaciones y material divulgativo, pudiendo ser utilizados en las comunicaciones realizadas por eme3 siempre y cuando se haga referencia a su autoría.

Once more, we open the period for the submission of projects to take part in the 7th edition of eme3 Festival that will be held in Barcelona from June 28th to July 1st 2012 in COAC (Official Catalan Chamber of Architects) while the exposition will remain open until July 15th.

Thematic of 2012 : introducing the concept of Bottom-up
The topic of the 7th edition of the International Festival of Architecture EME3 starts from an exploratory analysis of the application of the concept “BOTTOM-UP” in architecture and its relationship with society. When we talk about a bottom-up approach, counterposing it to the top-down, as the name suggests, it means starting with the detailed design of the individual parts, to afterwards link them to form larger components who will end up conforming a complete system. Strategies based on bottom-up information flows are potentially necessary as they are based on the extensive knowledge of all variables that may affect the elements of the system.
In a changing environment like the current, where the foundations of our system are constantly questioned and challenged, a series of actions, which to date had a fairly minor implementation in developed societies, emerge now strongly, relying on creativity and innovation to fight this moment of crisis and uncertainty.
Eme3 wants to give support to these initiatives originated through and with the civil society, and has decided therefore to enhance and promote bottom-up approaches in the two modalities of the call for projects.
What is the objective of the call for projects:
Following the philosophy of eme3 to give visibility to emergent creatives and innovative proposals, we are launching a call for already built, in process or to-be-built projects that go in the line with the theme of 2012 BOTTOM-UP, and that might be presented under two modalities and in different formats:
SHARE-IT:
It aims to show both realized and to-be-realized projects, in the format of a panel, a small scale prototype, a video, web and interactive application or any other volumetric format that may fit in 3x3x3m and will be produced and installed by the participant. The originality of the proposals and the presentation will be an added value for the selection criteria, therefore we make a call to the creativity and inventiveness of the participants.
Eme3 will be in charge of producing the material in the format of a panel according to the measures that’ll be communicated by the organization, whereas all the other materials will be produced by the participating team.
Those proposals in a volumetric format will be exposed in the exterior space, in the open, which shall be taken into account by the participating teams while designing it.
BUILD-IT:
We are opening a call for ideas where participants can submit proposals for the use of abandoned or degraded sites in the District of Ciutat Vella in Barcelona. The purpose of the call for ideas is to encourage the creation of spaces that give character and singularity to the neighborhood and facilitate the appropriation by the neighbors of the vacant lots in a participative bottom-up process, in order to allow the spaces recover their utility and maintain a certain dynamism and evolution over time. We have located several sites and/or corners in the District of Ciutat Vella in which it would be possible to work (see some examples of the sites in the annex (pdf)). Projects can be either focused like a direct intervention in any of the detected spaces or be presented through the realization of methodological proposals: workshops or construction of participatory processes.
Projects may have a middle or long term duration, following the ultimate goal of providing solutions to the degradation of unused or underused spaces in the District of Ciutat Vella in Barcelona. The Jury will choose a maximum of three ideas to be constructed or implemented during the Festival. The sites that are listed in the annex are a selection of the detected spaces in Ciutat Vella, whereas the winning proposals may end up being implemented in different spaces to those they were designed for.
Eme3 will support the realization of each of the proposals with a quantity up to 2.000 euro per project, understanding that any cost surpassing this budget shall be on the participants account.
Applicants: who can participate
To the call for projects eme3 invites to participate architects, designers, multidisciplinary groups, artists and other professionals or citizen from any country who have a proactive attitude when approaching inherent problems to contemporary cities and architecture, understanding that the necessities of the actual metropolis go beyond a merely buildable approach.
What type of projects can participate:
We are searching for projects that are product of a critical reflection to reality, with an eye on the political, economic and social context. These projects may address issues that revolve around society, ecology, politics, the transmission of knowledge or even the own architectural and urbanistic discipline. There is no specific format that defines the type of proposals, therefore publications, strategies and systems of work, prototypes of building materials, artifacts, mappings and/or architectural and urban projects are accepted.
Registration process:
Registration is free of cost.
Proposals whose presentation is incomplete won’t be taken into account in the selection process.
The projects will be received only by email to the following address: mercado@eme3.org. Any presentation of the project has to be accompanied by the registration form (to be downloaded on the web). The files shouldn’t exceed the 15Mb, while those over 6Mb have to be send through a web for big files transfer (wetransfer.com, yousendit.com, dropbox.com, etc). The subject of the message has to be “call for projects Eme3_2012”.

Presentation of the projects:

They’ll have to include the description of the concept and the intention of the project without surpassing the 500 words. Images, renders, photographs or plans that help explaining the project can sum up to 8 images. The names of the team and the project should appear on all sheets.
BUILD-IT: projects will be presented in a maximum of 3dinA3, with images and texts using a typography not smaller than 8. They’ll have to include the description of the concept and the intention of the project without surpassing the 500 words. Images, renders, photographs or plans (at scale) that help explaining the project can sum up to 8 images. An accompanying document shall contain an explanation of the assemblage of the proposal, the estimed time of montage, and a detailed budget. The names of the team and the project should appear on all sheets.
Deadline for submissions:
The last day to send the proposals is 15th April 2012
Process of selection:
The teams and/or pre-selected people will be contacted by the organization to clarify any doubts before the confirmation of their selection.
The projects will be selected according to the following criteria:
•Quality and creativity of the proposal
•Discursive coherence with the thematic of 2012
•Capacity of transforming the reality
•Economic and logistic viability of the proposal

The Jury will be composed by:
Members of the Scientific Committee of eme3 and the Board of Directors from the Jesús Serra Foundation and the COAC.

Sunday 15th April: submission deadline of the call for projects
Monday 23rd April: confirmation of the selected participants - IN PROCESS
Wednesday 23rd May: closing of the reception of the material for the catalog, web page and panels according to the specified features by the organization on 23rd April.
Thursday 28th June: inauguration of the Festival

Awards:
SHARE-IT: During the Festival eme3, the Foundation Jesús Serra will reward three projects selected by the Jury. All the participants of the modality SHARE-IT, regardless the format of their participation, will be eligible for the Award.
First prize: 3.000 euro
Second prize: 2.000 euro
Third prize: 1.000 euro
BUILD-IT: the prize consists in the financing of a maximum of 2.000 euro (VAT included) to carry out the chosen proposal. From the listed 6 spots, three proposals will be selected to be implemented. If the chosen proposals excede the budget of 2.000 euro, the additional costs will be provided by the participants, either through sponsorship, materials transfer or through own funding.
If the participants in the Build-it have to commute over 100 km2 to reach Barcelona, accommodation will be covered for one person of the winning team for a maximum of 7 nights, as well as the meals for those days.
*The Jury reserves the right to leave the Awards vacant if none of the proposals accomplishes satisfactorily the objectives (valid for both modalities of participation).
Property rights:
The selected projects might be subject to publications or promotional material, and may be used in the communications done by eme3 as long as there is a reference made to their authorship.
